Originally built as Saint Mary\u2019s in the 1860s, this prominent and beautiful example of architecture of the time expanded to eventually become an 80,000 sf structure, constructed of local limestone.\u00a0 It eventually become a boarding school in the 1960s.<\/p>\n
In 2017, RVI took possession when that school closed by Clinicare’s former Wyalusing Academy.\u00a0 RVI was able to save the huge structure from demolition by securing developer Commonwealth in assisting in securing National Historic Trust designation, and renovated the structure into middle class workforce housing, stabilizing the character of the neighborhood and stimulating substantial reinvestment into the community.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The subsequent reinvestment into the community resulted in a $13 million dollar input in city value. Upon opening in 2019, with the redevelopment vision of RVI and the talented development of Commonwealth, as investor and operator, 42 apartments now comprise the National Historic Register building now named Lawler School Lofts.
