Wyalusing Commons in Historic Prairie du Chien

2023 Phased In Approach

Development in smaller cities is a practical way to provide stable, and sustainably growing communities that provide “hub” services to regional populations radiating outward.  Prairie du Chien is a great example of the opportunity, and need, for affordable, quality housing in the City–to support the attraction and retention of talent in the City itself, but serving the larger rural community as well.

A phased in approach is necessary in this case–but with an overall plan in mind.

Phase 1 was the highly successful renovation of the former St Mary’s building into the current Lawler Lofts–providing 42 appealing units to the community of workforce housing.

In 2023, Phase 2 plans will tackle the Boiler Building--renovating this brick building into 6 housing units, available for purchase.  This will be the anchor building for future expansion on the property.

Phase 3 plans will further expand the growing need for housing in the area, with the potential for another 18 units on site.
