The Great River Road

The Great River Road

Local Natural Beauty & Historic Location

The stunning beauty of the Great River Road is a must see, and those lucky to live and work in this iconic natural beauty know it!  The Great River Road consists of 250 miles and is Wisconsin’s National Scenic Byway and just a section of highway 35.  This road travels through Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, parallel with the Mighty Mississippi River.

Starting in Kieler following the green and white pilots wheels you will find yourself in Prescott Wisconsin. Along this stretch of road are eight interpretive sites out of 70 in all 10 states that house the Great River Road.

These interpretive sites include:

Beyond the Interpretive sites, there are 33 beautiful towns and villages with their own stories to tell.

Throughout your journey, you’ll feel like you’re taking a step back in time as you visit communities composed almost entirely of 19th-century architecture.

You’ll find numerous shops, galleries, restaurants, hotels, bed & breakfasts, and other distinctive businesses, as well as unique annual festivals and events. The unique river towns are what make a Wisconsin Great River Road journey such an unforgettable experience.
